Esteemed House of Farella of Grendhill, or agents thereunto,
It has recently come to my attention that you find yourselves without a ruler. Doubtless it is that this casts a pallor on the faces of your noble countrymen as they question whether they have personnel in leadership who will manage the country’s internal affairs, foreign trade, justice, and let us not forget defense. I feel confident that as you consider these matters, you understand the importance of resolving your situation without delay.
I, having spoken with my counselors and trusted advisors and despite the inconvenience it will cause to myself and my House, believe I can, out of the affection in my heart that I feel for anyone in such a position, offer a solution to your conundrum.
I am Augfi Jerllamo of House Jerllamo, son of Tufrofri Jerllamo. I hail from a far country you may not have heard of, though it is no trifle next to Grendhill. Historically, we have largely kept to ourselves and have thus been unknown to many. I myself have spent my adult life in the service of my country, and thus have many years’ experience as their ruler. We have now been experiencing several years of booming trade with our partners, and I sense that we shall not remain in the shadows for much longer.
If you, esteemed colleagues in the service of the public, were to ask me to step in as your king during this crisis, I would be well honored and would accept my duty with great devotion and selflessness, offering my wisdom for the benefit of your people. I would execute judgment and integrity in all matters in order to serve the people the best I can. Furthermore, I would assist in the search for your king and queen. I trust we could locate them before the public decides to settle their worst fears for their dear king and queen as having been confirmed.
You must, however, understand that continuity of rule is vital for maximum benefit of the people. We cannot be trading seats at the drop of a hat. I would step in as your rightful ruler. Barring the return the following day, or near to it, of the high seat of House Farella, I would remain in that position in perpetuity.
I urge you to act quickly in this matter. One never knows what kidnappers will do to their abductees; you cannot hold out for them. In addition, I have heard whispers coming from large, belligerent, brutish nations that they wish to fill your vacancy with one of their own. I am sure some of them are preparing their armies as I compose this message. For a nation large enough to threaten Grendhill, I believe this mobilization could be realized in a few weeks. Allow me to step in before they decide to act, and I will ensure that does not happen.
With this sensitive affair currently in play, I believe it prudent not to reveal my country at this time. Should these brutish nations decide to descend upon you before you resolve your issue, your fate could get my nation entangled as well. I am sure you will understand.
That considered, we find ourselves in a position in which you are unable to contact me to indicate your acquiescence. I will therefore observe your dealings from afar. Hang a red banner from the balcony of the king’s suite.
I understand this decision is not to be taken lightly, but neither can it be done slowly. Delay at your peril. I expect your response within one week.
Your humble fellow in public service,
The Keeper of the Hidden Gate
King Augfi Jerllamo of House Jerllamo
